Description

Beatrice McSorley, born in Amersfoort Netherlands (1956), and received a degree from College for the Arts Amsterdam and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy for study in sculpture and free style graphics. McSorley has exhibited since 1986 in various mediums in the abstract expressionist style. Over the years her style development has been visible in line and color selection. Her unique material choice combines ancient and contemporary techniques fused in two and three-dimensional artwork. Her inspiration has benefited from artistic excursions to: Indonesia, America, Egypt Turkey, Ireland, Russia, Italy, Greece, France, England and the Caribbean region. McSorley’s uses vibrant primary colours in an abstract-impressionist style. The figures depicted in her paintings could be described as being evanescent movements, captured on canvas. They appear as silhouettes or outlines – and sometimes as body parts independent from the whole figure, which the eye must seek out in an otherwise abstract composition. Her recent paintings combine mixed techniques to achieve a harmony of color, which creates an overall magical, luminous effect. Even in Beatrice’s early works did she combine unique materials like a series of oil paintings with Chinese lacquer that added texture and dimension to interact with light and act to rouse the abstract composition. Both Beatrice’s landscapes and expressive female figures brighten the room for the viewer through the intense colors. Her material selection distinguish the composition attributes either through colored marble sand, old recipes of encaustics to swirls of paint which coat the warm voluptuous figures tainted with gold leaf.

The work of artist Beatrice de Jong mainly consists of oil paintings , combined with natural materials , such as paint or resin or acrylic on canvas and mixed media on paper . The themes she uses in her work , removing them from the stimulation they receive during her many travels . In 1990 she makes a journey through the United States . The beauty of the tropical coast of California puts it into associative atmospheric images of azure to pale pink , with palm trees , the abundance of water and the impressive marine animals play an important role . The abundant flora and fauna transforms them into visual abstractions . Almost opposite to this are the red sand plains and desert areas in their vastness a scanty vegetation. It is the greatness of nature that she wants to express. A totally different aspect of American society show them in the next series. She paints in bright colors , they are ” hard” against each other on, with a multitude of shapes next to each other , reminiscent of the flashy visual culture of this country. Constantly on the move paints Beatrice de Jong her dream and experienced reality full of color experiences . It’s her contradictions ( and eliminating it) in the world , it is therefore not surprising that they are traveling to Berlin in 1990 to outline its vision. The new political situation In 1991 she went to Russia and visit the Golden Circle of churches and monasteries around Moscow. She is fascinated by the ancient , almost archaic religious culture and is inspired by the Russian perception of religion with its rituals and icons . Unlike the U.S. , superficial quality advertising visual culture , Russia still has the culture of telling fairy tales handed down . The paintings that they have further to make this dark warm colors . A constant theme in her is the image of , obviously not tied to a particular country , female figure . Unfinished details in just a tangible configuration that is recognizable to everyone . In recent years , after a trip to Japan , Beatrice de Jong deepened strong in the operation of the materials . She tries to get where they find most suitable oil . Greatest possible transparency in cloths The different color surfaces should sit well together . Due to apply thin layers on the cloth she wants to create space in the plane . It is as if there is light passing through it . “Colors to breathe and thus the cloth to live ” ” My paintings are not as sleek design , everything stays open until the last moment . As the experience of the world through open-mindedness , as I face the canvas in the making. Never know I advance the outcome . the decision is if I’m a feel for the painting . ” Central themes in her work are the landscape , water and aquatic flora and female figures . It creates an abstract expressionist art in which themes are approached . From various perspectives With an exceptional sense of color , from childhood partly fueled by its close connection to nature , they know by colored surfaces to create . Space and perspective Especially the landscapes are intermingled and intertwined , which reflected movement is accomplished by dissecting her. Successive stages In addition to her painting she engages in metal sculptures and painted ceramics , including large tile scenes .

==========
