Werkbeschrijving

Mijn werk is een reflectie van mijn omgeving. Niet de natuur, maar de nimmer afnemende stroom van massa-mediabeelden, gebruik of hergebruik ik voor mijn schilderijen. De ‘must van de vernieuwing’, een fenomeen dat de twintigste eeuw lijkt te beheersen, gaat aan mij voorbij; ik ervaar het als een doodlopend spoor. Liever maak ik vrijelijk gebruik van het bestaande.

De massa-media hebben ons in staat gesteld op een exuberante wijze kennis te nemen van al die verschillende stijlen uit het verleden. Deze hebben allen hun kwaliteit bewezen, wij kunnen er naar behoeven uit putten. Volgens mij staat trouwens iedere stijlperiode voor een ideologie, de ideologie van de tijd waarin ze ontstond. Tegenwoordig worden die historische en ideologische stijlen naast elkaar erkend; als met een stijl een bepaalde ideologie en boodschap uitgedragen wordt, dan is die boodschap in ieder geval nu niet meer eenduidig. Mijn werk is evenmin eenduidig. Ik probeer er altijd verschillende betekenislagen in aan te brengen. Niet alleen inhoudelijk, maar ook formeel, dus aangaande het gebruik van mijn schildersmateriaal, de manier hoe ik bijvoorbeeld mijn verf opbreng.

Inhoudelijk houdt mij met name het verschijnsel fragmentatie bezig. Zowel in psychologische (wie ben ik) als in sociologische (wat moet ik) zin. Het idee van ‘eenheid’ heb ik zowel naar de mens als naar de maatschappij toe laten vallen. Het eenheidsidee is fictief, de werkelijkheid bestaat uit meerdere delen. De mens wil naar buiten toe wel graag als eenheid overkomen. Hierdoor is er meer sprake van een persoonlijkheid (rol) spelen, dan van een persoonlijkheid zijn (denk aan Madonna, Cindy Sherman, Laura Anderson). De stap van deze visie naar mijn werk, dat onverhuld samengesteld is, zal duidelijk zijn. De beelden die ik gebruik zijn bekend; ze hebben al een betekenis. Ik speel daarmee en voeg mijn visie toe. De toeschouwer neemt op wat hij herkent.

My work is a reflection of my surroundings . Not nature , but the never-diminishing power of mass media images, I use or reuse for my paintings. The must of innovation ‘ , a phenomenon that seems to dominate the twentieth century , is going past me. I experience it as a dead end. Rather I make liberal use of the existing.

The mass media have enabled us in an exuberant way to take all the different styles of the past knowledge. These all have proven their quality , we may need to draw from . I think each style period refers to an ideology, the ideology of the time in which they arose . Today, that historic styles ( and ideologies ) recognized alongside each other and with a style and a certain ideology propagated message , then that message in any case no longer clear . My work is not clear . I always try to make different layers of meaning . In Not only content , but also formal, so concerning the use of my painting materials , the way I paint my example proceeds .

Content keeps me busy especially the phenomenon of fragmentation . Both psychological ( who am I ) and in sociology (which I have ) sense. The idea of ‘unity ‘ I have to drop . Both the man and to society The unitary idea is fictional, reality consists of several parts . Man wants outwardly seem like it as a unit . This is more of a personality ( role ) play , then a personality (think of Madonna , Cindy Sherman , Laura Anderson ) . The step of this vision in my work, which is composed unveiled , will be clear . The images I use are known , they have a meaning . I play with them and add my worldview. The spectator takes on what he recognizes .
