Description

Bill Bodewes was inspired by cartoons and football gum plates in his work.

The color etchings are caricatures. They are primitive and powerful, exuberant and absurd, razor sharp in their naieviteit.

The artist grew up with pop and Pop Art.

He is recognized as a leading exponent of humanistic humor ism. His work gives an airy outlook on life. Bodewes’ work knows his strength by its quality as a cartoon.

The paintings are filled with thick lines and rough surfaces: colorful, powerful and appealing directly. “From tricks he knows how to make art. From clichés he comes to a surprising multiplicity.”
